Patch plaudits for pack power after win

20th March 2016

Rhys Patchell was named man-of-the-match after his 19-point haul in the victory over Munster Rugby - but the Cardiff Blues ace was quick to hail the performance of the forwards in the win.

Patchell grabbed the all-important try bonus score as Danny Wilson’s men claimed a key result at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.

However, he insisted the plaudits should go to the home pack for setting the platform for success in the 37-28 win.

“The boys worked hard and it all starts up front,” he said. “The forwards gave us some good front ball, certainly in the second half, and I was lucky enough that the gap opened up for me to score and there’s still a bit of life in the old legs.

“It was important to get a win after the loss away to Glasgow Warriors a few weeks ago.

“We started better than we did against Glasgow this time and the boys dug deep to put a solid 80-minute performance in to get a crucial win.

“It gives us a big lift for the rest of the season,” he added. “This was a solid display but by no stretch of the imagination was it perfect, there is plenty to work on before we face Treviso.

“But it’s a nice confidence booster going into next week at home and then the derby with Scarlets.”
