Cardiff & Vale U12’s made it two out of two on Sunday with another victory, this time over Heart of Wales at Merthyr RFC.

Despite the wet and blustery conditions the visitors showed their intent to run the ball right from the start. Indeed, it was not long before first right wing Jack Huntley and then left wing Aaron Reid ran in the opening tries. Both were the culmination of superb moves starting wide out on the opposite flanks. As the first half progressed further pressure on the opposition line-out saw flanker Matthew Corfield sprint clear to finish a 35m solo effort. The half then ended in very much the same way as it had begun with Jack Huntley flying over for another fantastic try.

At half time both sides made a number of changes. While this seemed to strengthen the resolve of the home side’s defence, they could not cope with the speed of the Cardiff & Vale back three. Before long Aaron Reid was in the hunt again for the fifth try of the day. Then, not to be outdone, fullback Danny Wardle finished off a great passage of play to score the sixth. Both tries were converted by outside half Josh Rees for the score to finish 0-34.

Though the backs scored 5 of the six tries on the day, they cannot take all the glory. They should be very grateful to the Cardiff & Vale forwards who worked tirelessly to provide them with a superb platform of possession. While they all deserve praise, a special mention must go to man of the match Sam Parker leading the way from Number 8

Heart of Wales 5 Cardiff and Vale 51

Cardiff and the Vale under 14s recorded their second win of the season over the Heart of Wales at Brecon but this time it was a comprehensive victory unlike the last minute win over Pembrokeshire in their last game. 8 tries were scored as the Heart of Wales were overwhelmed.

Great forward displays by hooker Cai Milson and lock Rhys Owen ensured a constant supply of quick ball for scrum half Lee Marshall. In the backs centre Lloyd Chalke and wing Joe Mclean were outstanding as the District racked up 51 points.
