Navidi nears return as Jenkins ruled out

24th November 2015

Head Coach Danny Wilson has admitted flanker Ellis Jenkins will face a number of weeks on the sidelines after picking up a knee injury - but revealed fellow back row Josh Navidi is now pushing for a recall.

Jenkins was forced off during the second half of the European clash with Harlequins after an impressive display up until that point and has now been diagnosed with a knee ligament injury will now keep him out this weekend’s derby clash with Ospreys.

However, Navidi is pushing for a first team recall after overcoming a neck injury that has kept him out in recent weeks.

“Ellis has picked up a knee injury that is going to rule him out for probably six weeks,” said Wilson. “We will see how his recovery and rehabilitation go; but it’s a knock that will certainly take a few weeks to heal up.

“It’s not as bad as we first though, which is a positive. He is a player who had taken his opportunity and was playing well.

“It’s a shame that has happened, especially with his performances over the last two or three games.

“Josh is making really good progress and he is hopefully going to be available for selection this week,” he added.

“We have made sure we haven’t pushed the process and turned the injury from a short-term one into a long-term one.

“Josh has recovered well and is pushing himself forward, but whether he is involved immediately is another matter and we will pick the team later in the week and make decisions.”
