Navidi fired up for Cardiff Blues comeback against Sale Sharks

14th December 2017

Josh Navidi is ready to continue his red hot form as he returns to Cardiff Blues action in Sunday's make-or-break European Challenge Cup clash with Sale Sharks (3.15pm).

The versatile back-row forward was one of the star performers throughout Wales’ autumn campaign, leading to widespread personal plaudits.

After winning his first cap in 2013, he has added six more in a memorable 2017, including four appearances at the Principality Stadium.

His form was no surprise to Cardiff Blues fans, who have become well-accustomed to his all action performances in regional colours and he is determined to carry on his momentum.

The Blues welcome Sale to the Arms Park a week after falling to a disappointing 24-0 defeat to the same opposition and Navidi knows they must avenge that loss to remain in control of Pool Two.

He said: “It was four years from my first cap to my second but they have come thick and fast now and I can’t complain – the autumn was unbelievable for me and hopefully it keeps coming. I’ll concentrate on my own game and doing what I do every week for the Blues.

“Last week against Sale was a tough game and it’s always a tough place to go but hopefully we can turn it around this week and obviously get the win.

“We’re still top and with a home game now we can hopefully turn it around and put last week’s performance behind us.

“These games always give you that opportunity – if you lose you have the next week to go out and put it right. Hopefully we can do that on Sunday.

“When its full here, it’s a really good atmosphere so hopefully we can get the people down here to watch.”

Following Sunday’s encounter, the Blues go into a busy period of three consecutive Welsh derbies and while Navidi knows his priority remains at the Arms Park, he is also acutely aware that he is in the shop window.

He added: “Every year Christmas is a tough one with games on Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve and then straight back into Europe. It’s a busy time of year but it’s a good time of the year.

“Derby games are always games they look at so I’ll keep doing what I do out there and hopefully I’ll get into the squad.

“In Wales there are so many backrowers who are world class quality so it’s just a case of playing your best week in, week out and hopefully you get the call up. But at the end of the day it has to start here with the Blues and I’m back into it here.”
