Cardiff Rugby have continued to invest in the future by signing Lloyd Lucas on a senior academy contract.

The Ysgol Glantaff and Cardiff Harlequins product, who has progressed right through the Blue & Blacks pathway, has been rewarded for an outstanding year.

In the past 12 months, the fly-half has represented Wales Under-18s and Cardiff RFC, while training regularly with the senior academy.

He was part of the Cardiff Under-18s side that reached the WRU Regional Age-Grade Championship final and now committed his future to the club.

Cardiff academy manager, Gruff Rees, said: “Lloyd was identified as someone with potential really early in our pathway and shone throughout his Dewar Shield year with Cardiff Schools.

“He also represented Ysgol Glantaf at an early age in the Welsh Schools and Colleges League, earning a Cardiff Rugby scholarship at the time.

“However, it has not been a linear journey for Lloyd but he has dealt with injuries and other set-backs really admirably, which is a great message for other aspiring young players.

“Lloyd received clear and consistent feedback from the club and subsequently spent a lot of time away from the environment, working hard when needed and has really developed himself.

“This says a lot about his attitude and appetite to fulfil his potential and we believe he can now continue to develop to become a senior player in the coming years.”
