Lee-Lo's RWC spot confirmed as he crosses whitewash in Samoa win

First Team News | 31st August 2019

Rey Lee-Lo will head into his second Rugby World Cup campaign with Samoa, as head coach Steve Jackson confirmed his final 31-man squad for Japan following Saturday’s victory over a New Zealand Heartlands XV.

The Cardiff Blues star registered on the scoresheet at Eden Park to seal a 36-19 win in Samoa’s penultimate warm-up encounter ahead of the global spectacle, which kicks off in Tokyo on September 20.

Lee-Lo was a stand-out performer for his side in Auckland, and was handed his try on a plate in the Pasifika Challenge opener.

Ah See Tuala, who was on a hat-trick, had a clear path to the tryline but unselfishly passed to Lee-Lo, who dotted down.

Manu Samoa will take on Wales’ pool stage opponents, Australia, at Bankwest Stadium next Saturday, before they get their World Cup campaign underway against Russia on September 24.

Also in the squad are former Cardiff Blues lock, Teofilo Paulo, Scarlets centre, Kieron Fonotia, and Tim Nanai Williams, brother of Wales’ Capital Region’s Nick Williams, who plays for French giants Clermont.
