Junior team gear up for Blues Cup Finals

The Blues Club Junior Cup Finals take place on Wednesday 9th May at Cardiff Arms Park.

The finals of the Under 12s, 13s and 14s, is a huge event in the Blues Region being the culmination of 8 months of inter club competition.

This is the fourth year of the Blues Cup. All these have been held at Cardiff Arms Park, with Pontypridd, Rhiwbina and Rumney being the most successful clubs winning at least one age group every year.

Rumney are again in the under 12 final this year and Pontypridd in the under 13s. Rhiwbina still have their under 14 semi final to play to keep the record going but Cowbridge who won the trophy last year stand in their way.

In the early years of the Competition Clubs in the South of the Region along with Pontypridd dominated proceedings but lately Brecon, Ystrad Rhondda, Builth Wells, Mountain Ash and Abercynon have come to the fore

Many Young Referees have cut their teeth officiating in these finals with Dan Jones now in the WRU Referees Academy and surely has a great future

The Finals evening at the Arms Park in always a great occasion and this year sees some exciting encounters.

Speaking ahead of the matches, Chris Ower, WRU Community Manager – Cardiff Blues said,

“The Blues Cup is hugely popular with teams competing throughout the region.”

“The first matches started in September and thousands of youngsters have taken part.”

“Rugby is stronger than ever in the region and I’d like to congratulate all the teams that have reached the final.”

“I’m sure it will be a day to remember for all of the youngsters.”

Under 12s – Kick off 5.45pm
Rumney v Abercynon

Under 13s – Kick off 6.55pm
Pontypridd v Mountain Ash

Under 14s – Kick off 8pm
Treorchy v Cowbridge
