Attack Coach Paul John was delighted to sign-off a difficult season with a bonus point victory over Zebre in the Guinness PRO12 at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park.
Tries from Alex Cuthbert (2), Gethin Jenkins, Rhys Patchell and Garyn Smith ensured Blues ended on a high on home soil.
And on an emotional final day – that saw the likes of Adam James and Filo Paulo depart the region – John was happy to see smiles back on the faces and Blues playing with attacking verve after a slow start.
He said: “The first half, against a strong wind, we struggled to keep the ball. We probably tried to use it too much.
“When we did keep it, and did the simple things well, we managed to get a foothold in the game. It was good to come in with a lead.
“The second half was a similar story, we lost the ball the first few times we had it and when we got a foothold we scored tries.
“It was pleasing to get a win; after a difficult year it was pleasing to get a win to sign-off and give something back to the fans.”
