Its been a difficult few months for Cardiff Blues, and the same can be said for Capital Rugby Development Officer John Huw Williams, as illness had forced him to take a break from his Capital Rugby coaching, but thankfully hes is back to full health and is coaching Capital Rugby sessions in the primary schools of Cardiff once again.
Cardiffblues.com caught up with John on one of his first sessions back at Marlborough Road Primary School, where he was teaching two classes an introductory Capital Rugby session.
Its important that we teach the kids not only rugby skills but general skills about their health and also how they can maintain a healthy lifestyle said John.
And so the lesson started with a gentle warm up, which John pointed out to the children, was to ensure that the muscles of the body are warm and are less likely to be injured when they are being used fully
This also provided the perfect opportunity to teach the youngsters how to side step as they were jogging amongst each other as part of their warm up.
John commented, Its good to integrate the rugby skills with the warm up, but we cant take too long over it as the children are young and excitable and knowing that its a Capital Rugby session they want to start throwing the ball around!
John was true to his word and as soon as the youngsters has finished warming up the session moved up a gear and the passing skills were introduced to the session. This formed the main part of the introductory session and has now set up a platform for which Marlborough Primary School pupils will be taught upon over the coming weeks.
