Jenkins will not be daunted by Falcons trip

6th November 2014

Flanker Ellis Jenkins has urged Cardiff Blues to embrace the chance to impress and not be daunted by facing a power-packed Newcastle Falcons team in the LV=Cup at Kingston Park on Friday night (kick-off 8pm).

Blues travel to the north east of England to tackle Falcons who lost their opening game of the competition to Northampton Saints.
The Falcons have indicated they will select a strong team as they gear up for a return to Premiership rugby.
And for Jenkins, who is tipped to captain Blues, that represents a huge opportunity for many of the younger players at the region to impress as they open their bid for cup glory.
"Newcastle had nearly a first-string team last week so we know that they are taking the competition seriously and we will need to be ready," he said.
"We have spoken about not being daunted by it - it's a chance to impress. Against English teams there is always a bit of extra competition, it's great to get the chance to play different teams.

"We played Quins in the LV=Cup last year and Leicester in a friendly this year, it's always great to sample a different environment.

"It's an opportunity to play at a level that a lot of the boys have been trying to get into and it's always nice to get the opportunity,” he added.

"It gives you the chance to put your hand up for games coming up in the league and in Europe.

“There's only so much you can showcase in training, the guys will definitely be trying to impress in a competitive environment."
