High praise for captain Jenkins in victory

14th November 2014

Coach Richard Hodges praised a 'magnificent' performance from back row dynamo Ellis Jenkins - insisting Cardiff Blues would not have won the game without the impact of the skipper.

Jenkins grabbed a second half try and led by example throughout to win the plaudits of Academy Manager Richard Hodges.

“We wouldn’t have won that game tonight without Ellis Jenkins – that sums it up. He was superb,” said Hodges.

“If you had asked everybody in the crowd for their man-of-the-match I think almost all of them would have said him.

“He’s knocking on that door and he has put himself up for selection for the Edinburgh game.

“Ellis has had a stellar career at age grade level and has had to be patient and wait for that opportunity. But he has magnificent tonight.

“We have a lot of sevens here and strength in depth,” he added. “From Sam (Warburton) down and people like Josh (Navidi) too, there is some real quality there.

“All the players out there tonight against Scarlets need to have a degree of patience and wait for that chance.

“But we said to them beforehand, they needed to understand they might not get another game for weeks so make sure the taste left in their mouths was a positive one. Someone like Ellis has done that.”
