Halaholo to make 100th Cardiff appearance

First Team News | 9th November 2023

Willis Halaholo will make his 100th appearance for Cardiff as four Wales stars return for Friday’s BKT United Rugby Championship clash with Vodacom Bulls.

The centre, who returned to the club on a short-term deal at the beginning of the season, will reach the milestone having battled back from a series of injuries.

He links up with Rey Lee-Lo in a familiar midfield as the Blue and Blacks make eight changes in total for the Friday night clash (19:35).

Corey Domachowski, Teddy Williams, Tomos Williams and Mason Grady also come into the starting line-up after featuring for Wales against the Barbarians last weekend.

Cardiff Rugby head coach, Matt Sherratt said: “It means a lot to us as a club every time someone reaches one of those milestones.

“If you look at some of the big moments and big wins over the last six or seven years, Willis has been there. He has been a brilliant player for the club and a brilliant person for the club as well.

“When he appeared against the Ospreys in pre-season, he hadn’t played for 360 days. It’s a bit of an emotional one. It’s great to see him back on the field, playing with his mates and getting to 100 games. He has shown a huge amount of resilience and fought for his career.

“It’s also good to have the international boys back, they obviously bring a lot of quality and experience, which provides a significant boost for what will be a big test.

“The Bulls are a quality outfit with an obvious power game but they also have threats all over the pitch, which we will need to negate.

“However, we are looking forward to the challenge and a return to Friday night rugby at Cardiff Arms Park.”

Domachowski is joined in the front-row by Efan Daniel, who makes his first start of the season, and Rhys Litterick, while second-row Williams partners Rory Thornton in the boiler-house.

The only other change in the pack sees Ellis Jenkins return to the starting line-up with Thomas Young utilised from the bench.

In the backs, Tomos Williams links up with Tinus de Beer, while Jacob Beetham is handed his first URC start at full-back and Mason Grady comes onto the wing.

Rhys Carré, Seb Davies and Thomas Young all provide experience from the bench, while Arwel Robson is set for his competitive debut for the club.
