Guinness PRO14 fixtures CONFIRMED

8th August 2017

Cardiff Blues will kick-off the new Guinness PRO14 season with a home clash against Edinburgh.

The Scottish outfit visit Cardiff Arms Park on Friday, September 1, in a repeat of last season's opening fixture.

The Championship takes on a new format this season with two conferences following the addition of the Toyota Cheetahs and Southern Kings.

All you need to know about the newly expanded Guinness PRO14.

Wales Capital Region have been drawn in Conference A with the Ospreys, Munster, Connacht, Glasgow Warriors, Zebre and the Cheetahs.

After hosting Edinburgh, the Blues travel to Leinster and then return to the Arms Park to face Glasgow Warriors.

Cardiff Blues head coach Danny Wilson said: “Now the fixtures have been released the excitement will really begin to build ahead of the big kick-off.

“The addition of the two South African teams brings a new, exciting and slightly unknown dimension to the competition. Going over there in April will be a real challenge but it is one we are looking forward to.

“It all begins with Edinburgh at home, which is a great fixture and I'm sure Richard Cockerill has already had a big impact there.

“We started last season well, winning our first four games, and we need to do that again, while maintaining consistency through the season.

“The home crowd at Cardiff Arms Park is vital towards our success and we hope to see a large crowd both at the Edinburgh game on September 1, and throughout the season.”

Their first Welsh derby comes in Round Six, where they host the Dragons on October 6.

Wilson's men then face South African opposition for the first time when they welcome the Cheetahs on February 10. They also travel to South Africa to face both the Cheetahs and the Southern Kings on back-to-back weekends in April.
