More than 250 children attended Fit, Fed & Fun camps hosted by the Cardiff Rugby Community Foundation during the recent half term holidays.
Across five locations – Barry RFC, Trelai Pavilion, Gellideg Wellbeing Centre, Penrhys Primary School, and Abercwmboi RFC – the foundation delivered five camps designed to tackle holiday hunger and keep children active during the school break.
In just one week, they reached 4 out of the 5 unitary authorities in the region and engaged in excess of 250 children from some of our region’s most underprivileged areas.
Making an Impact Where It’s Needed Most
The school holidays can be a challenging time for many families. For some children, it means less access to structured activity, social interaction and regular healthy meals.
The Fit, Fed & Fun camps exist to bridge that gap.
Each camp provides:
- Fun, structured physical activity to keep children moving
- Free, healthy meals to tackle holiday hunger
- A safe, supportive environment where children can thrive
- By partnering with local primary schools and rugby clubs, we ensure the camps are accessible to as many children as possible and right in the heart of the communities that need them most.
Community Manager Bronnie Jones said: “These camps are a vital part of our community engagement throughout the year.
“We have committed to running 30 of these camps across the year, targeting all five of our unitary authorities and delivering in areas that need it most.
“We’ve built important connections with local primary schools and rugby clubs to ensure the provision can be made available to as many children within our region as possible.
“These camps are a key part of keeping children active during the school holidays, providing them with free healthy food and a safe environment to thrive in. As a foundation we are aware of the struggles that more and more families in our region are faced with, and this is our way of helping and supporting where we can.”
In addition to the Fit, Fed & Fun camps, 165 children also attended a sold-out half-term camp held at Cardiff Arms Park.
The camps return next during the Easter Holidays – key your eye on the foundation’s social media channels for more information!
