Wales have confirmed their side for the final Quilter Nations Series clash against South Africa — with Danny Southworth set for his international debut among five Cardiff Rugby stars included in the matchday 23.
Keiron Assiratti continues at tighthead prop, winning his 19th cap. The Cardiff front-rower has been a consistent presence throughout the autumn, providing stability at scrum time and strong contributions in the loose.
Alex Mann starts again, packing down at openside flanker this weekend, making him the only mainstay in the Welsh back-row this Autumn.
Cardiff’s representation on the bench is led by Danny Southworth, who is in line to make his Wales debut. The loosehead prop has made an impressive start to life at Cardiff and now looks set for his first senior international appearance.
Head coach Steve Tandy paid tribute to Southworth’s rise, saying:
“What’s impressed me about Danny, first of all, was his performances for Cardiff at the start of the year, and then coming into the campaign the way he’s adapted to the detail, the way he’s fitted into the group and brings an energy, but he’s also a quality player too.”
In the backline replacements, Callum Sheedy returns to the international stage against the back-to-back world champions, looking to provide experience and game-management from fly-half. Ben Thomas returns to the matchday squad providing cover across the backline from the 23 jersey.
