Cardiff Blues have received a boast ahead of their Amlin Challenge Cup Final with the announcement of a lucrative sponsorship deal with their principal commercial partner for a further three years.

EADS has extended its current deal with the team, after first being named as major sponsors in 2008. The deal means EADS appear as lead sponsor on the players’ shirts for another three seasons.

EADS, employs 1,200 people at its £35M technology centre situated off the M4 corridor between Newport and Cardiff, is creating the next-generation technology solutions and services, principally in the areas of secure IT, communications and cryptography. The site is also home to EADS Innovation Works UK, part of the group’s global network of research and technology facilities.

The deal comes at a pivotal time for Cardiff Blues, as they near the end of their first season at their £50m, 27,000-seater home at the Cardiff City Stadium.

In the past year the club has been developing and evolving both on and off the pitch, with corporate membership and hospitality at the exclusive Premier Club continuing to grow and expand. After another strong European run, the Cardiff Blues side will again be pushing on all three fronts in Europe next season, including the Anglo Welsh Cup, Magners League and as top tier seeds in the Heineken Cup.

Chief Executive of the Cardiff Blues, Robert Norster said: “It is great news for everyone associated with Cardiff Blues that EADS are to continue their invaluable support of our team. It is a real bonus to carry our brand partnership forward for such an extended period as we develop our growing status across the elite European game. We are delighted that our association with EADS is to continue for at least a further three year term, during which we aim to build on the successes already achieve together.”

Robin Southwell, Chief Executive Officer of EADS UK commented: “We’re really proud of our sponsorship of the Cardiff Blues which reflects EADS' commitment to Wales and the further development of the Welsh knowledge-based economy.   The Blues are focused on excellence and we work tirelessly to achieve the same goals for our own demanding customers.

“The existing partnership has delivered benefits to both sides and as a result we are pleased to be associated with Wales' leading team for another three years.   It has been a great way to build brand awareness and strengthen our links with the wider community"
