Corey Domachowski will leave Cardiff Arms Park at the end of the season after more than a decade in Blue & Black.

The popular loose-head will join Scarlets after amassing 136 appearances since making his debut for his home club at just 19-years-old.

Domachowski, now 29, admits it was a difficult decision but he insists it is the right time to move as he attempts to rediscover the ‘spark’ he had earlier in his career.

He said: “Cardiff obviously means a lot to me. It’s my home region and without this club I would not have achieved the things I have in rugby.

“I’ve been here 12 years including the academy and have made a lot of connections and lifelong friends – not just teammates but coaches, staff and sponsors as well. Cardiff has been like my family.

“It was a tough decision, but a decision I had to take for my career and the security for my family. At this stage of my career I definitely need a new challenge and hopefully with this move I can get that spark back.

“I’m hugely grateful to everyone at Cardiff and we still have at least two games to play. Hopefully we can seal our place in the play-offs and from there anything can happen. It would be amazing to finish here on a high.”

The Gilfach Goch product progressed right through the Cardiff pathway and points to the European Challenge Cup campaign in 2018 as the highlight of his club career.

His form for Cardiff also propelled him to the international stage, where he now has 10 Wales caps.

Cardiff head coach Corniel van Zyl said: “Everyone at the club would like to thank Corey for what he has given and achieved over the last 10 or more years.

“He has been a big part of this group and will be missed but he’s at the stage of his career where he needs a fresh start and challenge.

“Corey and his family will always be welcome at the Arms Park and he leaves with our best wishes.”
