Davies determined to repay Cardiff fans' faith

First Team News | 22nd April 2022

Seb Davies has called on Cardiff to unleash their disappointment of recent weeks to clip the Ospreys wings at the Arms Park on Saturday.

The Blue and Blacks go into the encounter on the back of disappointing back-to-back Welsh derby defeats to Scarlets and a much-improved, albeit losing, performance against Saracens.

Davies admits it has been a frustrating period but he is determined to bounce back and wants to repay the Cardiff fans’ faith.

He said: “Both were disappointing but the difference with Saracens was we put in a good performance, an 80 minute performance where against the Scarlets we were pretty poor in all aspects.

“We know how disappointing it was a couple of weeks ago. All the fans came out and we didn't put on a good display. So now it's very important to get that victory and get the fans hyped up again.

“Everyone was just so, so disappointed. It's always tough, isn't it to bounce back and then unfortunately the week after we lost as well. But we have another chance this weekend to put it right against boys we play quite often or we know well.

"A lot of people may pay good money to come and see us play. They work all week to then come and see us.

"We owe a bit to them with our performance having let them down over the last couple of times. But we’ve just got their focus on ourselves and hopefully we get the win."

Cardiff go up against a strong Ospreys side, who boast a formidable pack. Alun Wyn Jones will make his 250th appearance for the club and is partnered by fellow Wales and Lions lock Adam Beard.

Davies knows it will be a significant challenge, particularly up front where he will go toe-to-toe with his international teammates, and he is acutely aware that Cardiff must keep calm and disciplined.

He added: “There are all good players. Regardless who they pick and who's going to be taking the field in the second-row, they’re good players and we expect a big challenge on the weekend.

“They kicked the ball quite a lot or they do against us, an average of 33 times a game. So, it's a lot of kicking battles, they obviously have a big forward pack, and any indiscipline, they just kick into our corner and get their driving lineout going.”
