Dan Thomas is the latest Blue & Black to sign a new contract at the Arms Park just days after being named Cardiff Rugby Players’ Player of the Season.
The fearless flanker, sponsored by DragonBets, moved to the Welsh capital ahead of the 2024-25 season having made over a hundred appearances across seven seasons at Bristol Bears.
Thomas quickly established himself as a first team regular thanks to his work-rate, physicality and tenacity.
He has enjoyed a standout season and is currently top of the BKT United Rugby Championship charts for tackles made and second for turnovers won.
That form saw Thomas named Player of the Season by his peers, and now with a URC quarter-final against DHL Stormers just days away, Thomas is relishing the future at Cardiff.
Thomas said: “I am really happy to be staying at Cardiff. I am enjoying my rugby and I’m enjoying being part of a great group and the style we are playing.
“I hope that can be seen in my performances in Blue & Black.
“I am very grateful to Corniel for giving me the opportunity to continue here and hopefully I can repay that faith on the field.
“We have an exciting future at Cardiff. There is a special group of players, who are continuing to grow, and I’m confident we are going to make special memories on the pitch.”
Thomas came through the system at the Scarlets but moved to Gloucester in 2014. He made 11 appearances in Cherry & White before moving to their West Country rivals and kick-starting his career.
He helped Bristol into the Premiership and became a mainstay at Ashton Gate before moving to the Arms Park.
With 35 appearances and five tries in Blue & Black, Thomas has become a fan favourite in the Welsh capital and head coach Corniel van Zyl was delighted to retain his services.
