Cardiff Rugby are pleased to reward Rhys Cummings with an academy contract following an outstanding season in the age-grade set-up. 

The exciting full-back starred throughout the Blue & Blacks Under-18s campaign and made a similar impact with Wales Under-18s. 

Now the Cardiff and Vale College Student will join on an academy deal as the club continue to build for the future. 

Gruff Rees, Cardiff Rugby Academy Manager commented “Rhys has been earmarked as a real talent since he was 15, and we have been thrilled to see his progress over the past few years.

“He has made such an impact at Under-18 level both for ourselves and Wales recently. He is another player who has had set-backs but has always applied himself brilliantly and added some real consistency to his game over the past 9 months. I am confident and will flourish in a full time setting.”

Cummings, who came through the Merthyr Schools pathway, has represented Cardiff at Under-16, 17 and 18 level. He has also represented Cefn Coed and Merthyr RFC and has enjoyed two years at CAVC after attending Cyfarthfa High.

“He is a great character and nothing fazes him – we look forward to seeing him progress over the next few years”
