Clubs U25: Scarlets 10 - Blues 31

25th September 2008

In the first round of the Regional Clubs under 25 championship The Blues beat the Scarlets 31 points to 10 at Hendy RFC last night (24th September).

The Blues who had a huge injury list went into the game with 17 debutants in their squad of 22.  The Scarlets last years Champions were outplayed by a Blues side who played running rugby from start to finish.

The Roberts brothers Chris and Steve from Penarth RFC scored two tries each in their first game for the Blues with Chris adding a couple of penalties to bring his tally to 16 for the night.

Another Penarth player outside half Rhys Lakin son of former Cardiff player Bob also had an outstanding first game.  Beddau  no 8 Glen Slater had a storming game and must have put himself into the frame for the Wales Clubs side Blind side Andy Duggan was outstanding and last years Wales Clubs Captain Matthew Lewis gave his usual class performance.

Huw Lougher of Llantrisant RFC a seasoned performer with the Blues added a fifth try to make it a comfortable win.  With 5 missed conversions and a missed penalty this could have been a huge win but Coaches Adam Rosser and Richard Erskine will be well pleased with this result by a team with so many new players
