Cardiff RFC will take on Carmarthen Quins this Saturday after clinching the Super Rygbi Cymru regular season title in dramatic fashion, capping a remarkable run of late-season form to finish top of the table.
In the competition’s new format, both the league winners and the eventual play-off champions will lift silverware, and Cardiff have already secured the first piece of the prize after overtaking Ebbw Vale in a stunning twist at the summit.
A sequence of impressive victories on the road against Pontypool and Llandovery laid the platform, before Cardiff sealed their place at the summit with a convincing 36-19 bonus-point win over Swansea at Broadacre.
Rhys Cummings marked his first start of 2026 with a brace, while Ioan Emanuel, Alun Rees, Dewi Cross, and Jason Harries also crossed to complete an emphatic display. The Blue and Blacks ran in six tries in total, underlining the attacking confidence that’s helped drive their title charge.
Speaking after securing first place, head coach Dan Fish highlighted the consistency that has defined the Blue & Blacks run-in.
“It’s great. We put a big emphasis on our performances week in, week out, and the performances, especially over the last four or five weeks, have been outstanding.”
“To finish at the top of the tree is always a great place to be. We’re delighted with that, finishing top. We know it’s a couple of big weeks ahead of us, but like I said, obviously delighted.”
Captain Craig Hudd echoed those sentiments, pointing to the squad’s growing momentum at the business end of the season.
“It was a marker we set at the start of the season, to try and push for the top. We didn’t start the season great, but over the last few weeks we picked up momentum.”
“We came into this block of games hoping just to get result, result, result and give ourselves a chance to win the regular season. Today, it feels great to get that done.”
That momentum will now be crucial as Cardiff turn their attention to the play-offs, but first comes a return to action against Carmarthen Quins on Saturday (14:30 KO).
