The start of this season’s U18 WRU Regional Age Grade Championship campaign saw a dominant 53-38 victory against the Dragons in Ystrad Mynach, with the team setting high standards for themselves right from the start of the season.
An end-to-end first half saw Cardiff take a narrow 29-26 lead into half-time. A combined 10 tries were scored, with Cardiff’s Devon Morris scoring a hat-trick and Evan Hughes also getting over the line, which was further cemented by three conversions from Finn Britton. A Britton penalty was the only difference between the two teams entering half-time.

However, the second half was dominated by Cardiff, with the driving maul proving a powerful weapon throughout the second 40 minutes.
A further try from Evan Hughes, as well as Liam Williams and Cairion Savage getting on the scoresheet, pushed Cardiff’s try total for the game up to seven, which was rounded off by a further three conversions and a penalty from Finn Britton to take the game tally to a 53-38 victory by the final whistle.

This was a great winning start to this promising RAG Championship season, and one to be built upon as the campaign continues, with Cardiff hoping to make their third finals charge in three consecutive years.
Next up for Cardiff is hosting the Ospreys on Sunday 23 August at Cardiff Arms Park, following the tough loss at the end of last season after their unbeaten run to the final.
