Cardiff sign hooker Dafydd Hughes

First Team News | 27th October 2023

Cardiff Rugby have added further strength to their front-row resources with the signing of former Wales Under-20s hooker Dafydd Hughes.

The 27-year-old joins the Blue and Blacks from Jersey Reds after the English outfit went into administration.

Hughes had joined the former English Championship club in the summer, having made 38 appearances for the Scarlets during a seven-year spell.

Cardiff Rugby head coach Matt Sherratt said: “Technically, Daf is a very good all round hooker, who has amassed a lot of experience from his time at the Scarlets and with Wales Under-20s.

“It was unfortunate what happened at Jersey but we are pleased to give Daf an opportunity at Cardiff and he arrives with a point to prove.

“Like all of our signings in recent weeks, we believe he has real potential and will be determined to grasp this opportunity with both hands, while giving us further depth in a key position.”

Hughes linked up with Cardiff in the build-up to last week’s BKT United Rugby Championship clash against Benetton Rugby and will be available for this weekend’s Round Two fixture against Dragons.
