Cardiff Rugby are excited to announce an outline of special activity and events to celebrate the club’s sesquicentennial season.

The 2026-27 season is of course 150 years since the club was founded with the amalgamation of Glamorgan and Cardiff Wanderers.

It provides a unique and momentous opportunity for the club to come together with sponsors, supporters, former players and the wider community for a season of celebrations.

To mark the milestone, the club are planning a number of celebratory events, commemorative items and initiatives, which include but are not limited to the following.

  • 150th Anniversary Book
  • Cardiff Rugby & Cardiff RFC 150 Season Membership
  • Launch of a 150 Club
  • 150th anniversary rugby ball competition and community programme to be delivered to Primary Schools
  • 150th Season Launch Dinner
  • Commission of Sir Gareth Edwards Portrait
  • Commission of Cardiff Greatest XV painting
  • Commission of commemorative Grogg.
  • Special edition sesquicentennial jersey
  • Celebratory fixtures for both Cardiff RFC and Cardiff Rugby
  • 150 Anniversary Golf Day

A 150th Anniversary committee, formed by previous management, has been meeting on regular basis to ensure all stakeholders are represented. This is currently chaired by Jamie Muir and includes Keith Morgan (CAC chair), Simon Down (CAC), Chris Collins (CRFC Chair), David Allen (CF10 Trust), Sally Carter (Heritage Committee), Mervyn John, Andy Booth, (former players), Mike Brown, Jack Butler, Jason Chapman, Hannah Davis and Sarah Cryer.

Further details will be released throughout the months ahead as we look forward to celebrating 150 years of Blue & Black and an exciting future ahead.
