Cardiff Blues have confirmed that the match against former double Heineken Cup Champions, Leicester Tigers, will be played at the Millennium Stadium on Sunday 29 October, 3.00pm kick off.
The decision to move the Heineken Cup fixture comes on the back of the great success of holding the Leinster match there last season. In a thrilling match the Blues went on to win by 40 points to 31 and a Celtic League record crowd of 15,327 supporters turned up to cheer on the team.
Robert Norster, Cardiff Blues Chief Executive said;
We have taken the decision as last seasons match at the National Stadium was recognised to be a great success by the overwhelming majority of our traditional and newer supporters. For this match we will be using both the middle and the lower tiers, with ticket promotions ensuring that it should be a great day out for familys and all the junior clubs throughout the region.
We continue to cast the net further in the way that we promote the team and endeavour to ensure that we cater for all supporters some of whom may not have watched the Blues in the past. The event will provide the opportunity for many more to watch the Cardiff Blues take on one of the powerhouses of European rugby in one of the worlds finest stadiums.
Paul Sergeant, Millennium stadium chief executive said:
We were collectively delighted with the outcome of Millennium Stadium hosting the Blues v Leinster fixture last season and on the back of this success we welcome our neighbours and a thrilling fixture against Leicester Tigers.
Leicester took the 2003 Heineken Cup title at the Stadium and Im sure the Blues will put on a great performance as they did against Leinster
If the last time is anything to go by, Id encourage people to get involved as its sure to be a memorable occasion.
