Cardiff Blues Ultimate XV | Tight-head prop

First Team News | 1st April 2020

We continue our Cardiff Blues Ultimate XV with a poll to decide our greatest tight-head prop.

Yesterday supporters chose Matthew Rees to join Gethin Jenkins in the Ultimate XV, but who is next?

Scott Andrews (2009-present | 182 appearances | 3 tries | 14 caps for Wales)

‘Bubba’ was introduced to the regional scene in 2009 and has gone on to build an impressive CV, which includes 14 international caps, a Six Nations title and featured in both Challenge Cup final wins. The prop was a stand-out player for his home region during the 2019/20, and is fast-approaching the double century milestone of appearances.

Ben Evans (2003-2006 | 56 appearances | 27 caps for Wales)

A larger than life character, former Swansea prop Ben Evans was a member of the inaugural Cardiff Blues squad. A 27-times capped Wales international, Evans made 56 regional appearances over the course of three campaigns before making a move to Sale, and was a reliable player for both clubs and country during his career.

Taufa’ao Filise (2006-2018 | 255 appearances | 9 tries | 22 caps for Tonga)

Taufa’ao Filise made the switch to Cardiff Blues from Bath in 2006, and cemented himself as a true legend of the region during his 12-year stint at the Welsh capital. The Tongan seemed to be able to keep going, year after year, and broke the record for Cardiff Blues all-time appearances. Fittingly, Filise’s 255th and final appearance for the region, at 40 years old, came in the 2018 Challenge Cup final win in Bilbao.

Dillon Lewis (2015-present | 52 appearances | 1 tries | 26 caps for Wales)

Academy graduate Dillon Lewis made his debut for his home region in 2015, and has gradually worked his way to become a key member of the first team squad. The 24-year-old already has a Rugby World Cup semi final under his belt and has built a reputation for his work around the park. He passed a half century of appearances at Judgement Day last year
