While disappointed to learn Sunday’s European Challenge Cup encounter against Stade Francais has been cancelled, Cardiff Blues fully accept and support the decision of EPCR.
The match was cancelled after Stade Francais raised concerns regarding the Covid-19 status of their travelling players and staff.
Stade faced Benetton Rugby last weekend and the Italian club have since recorded a number of positive tests with their own fixture against Agen also cancelled.
While Stade’s players and staff have all subsequently tested negative, and EPCR’S Medical Risk Assessment Committee approved the fixture, the French club were reluctant to travel.
Cardiff Blues have therefore been awarded a 28-0 (five match point) victory.
It is disappointing the fixture will not be fulfilled, however Cardiff Blues understand the decision and send the club’s best wishes to Stade Francais and any other clubs affected at this time.
The health and safety of the entire rugby family is paramount at this time and the club would like to thank EPCR, Stade Francais and staff at Rodney Parade for their professionalism.
Preparations for a return to Guinness PRO14 action will now begin while continuing to follow stringent protocols and procedures from the tournament organiser, the Welsh Rugby Union and Public Health Wales.
