Cardiff Blues stars shine in World Cup

21st September 2015

Cardiff Blues star Cory Allen grabbed a first half hat-trick and was named man-of-the-match as Wales opened their Rugby World Cup with victory over Uruguay at the Millennium Stadium on Sunday.

However, the young star is now an injury concern for the rest of the tournament after picking up a hamstring injury. He will be assessed on Monday before further news is announced by the Welsh camp.

Sam Warburton, Alex Cuthbert and Lloyd Williams were also in action for Wales as they wrapped up the bonus point with a 54-9 win over the South Americans in Pool A.

Cardiff Blues also had plenty of involvement in the clash between Samoa and the United States of America in Pool B in Brighton.

Hard-running Samoa centre Rey Lee-Lo and USA full back Blaine Scully, both of whom will move to Blues after the tournament, both started the game while another new recruit, lock Cameron Dolan, made a second half appearance.

And it was from Crusaders centre Lee-Lo who enjoyed the bragging rights as Samoa started the competition with a 25-16 win at the Brighton Community Stadium.
