Cardiff Blues spread festive cheer to young fans

22nd December 2008

The Cardiff Blues squad were out in force this Monday visiting young supporters in hospitals around the region.

Young patients, who sadly have to spend the Christmas period in hospital away from their families, had their day brightened up with visits from the squad. Children at the Prince Charles Hospital, Merthyr also had a visit from a surprise special guest.

Father Christmas joined members of the Cardiff Blues squad, who had teamed up with Red Dragon FM Christmas Toy Appeal in aid Help a South Wales Child, to deliver Christmas presents to the young patients.

Speaking at the Prince Charles Hospital, Andy Powell, the Cardiff Blues and Wales Number 8 said, “Christmas is obviously a time to spend with your family, so it’s sad that some of the youngsters have to be away from their families and friends. The least we could do was spend some time visiting them and it was a real pleasure to meet them.”

“The staff at the Hospital do a great job looking after the kids and keeping their spirits up. The children were great and I think Father Christmas also enjoyed himself too.”

The squad also visited the Children's Wards at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff and the Royal Glamorgan Hospital in Llantrisant as part of their annual Christmas Hospital Visits.
