The inaugural Brecon Carreg Mascot Race was held at Cardiff Arms Park last weekend and acted as the centrepiece of the Cardiff Blues Family Fun Day.
The event generated a great deal of interest as a 7 heavyweight mascots lined up to mount their challenges for the biggest title of the mascot race season.
In a competitive field Cardiff Blues mascot Bruiser faced long term rivals Tommy the Tiger (Newport RFC) and the Swansea Shark (Swansea RFC), plus S4C television favourites Super Ted, Sali Mali, Fireman Sam and Naughty Norman Price. All entrants were keen to make an impressive performance in front of an Arms Park crowd.
Bruiser had home field advantage and with recent 1st and 2nd place finishes in his last two races, many spectators believed he had an edge over the other competitors. Only time would tell if Bruiser could fulfil his billing as pre-race favourite.
As the starter sounded the start of the race, Bruiser leapt out of the blocks and never looked back. Naughty Norman Price put in a late challenge but when he realised he couldnt catch the speedy Blues flyer he made a vain attempt to tackle Bruiser.
Bruiser was rightfully given the winners rosette on behalf of Brecon Carreg and duly soaked the other competitors with his Brecon Carreg sparkling water!
