Director of Rugby Mark Hammett has hailed the impressive form of Argentine full back ace Joaquin Tuculet after a successful first six weeks at Cardiff Blues.
Tuculet made his debut in the home victory over Benetton Treviso at the end of November and capped an impressive display with a superbly taken try
The 25-year-old – capped 20 times by his country – has since gone on to shine in the No.15 jersey and Hammett described his display against Newport Gwent Dragons on New Year’s Day as his best yet as he settles into his new surroundings.
“Like all the top sportsmen, they always seem to have another second or two compared to everyone else on the field. Joaquin is one of those,” said Hammett.
“I felt he had his best game against the Dragons. Not necessarily in terms of breaking it open, but in contact, when he was isolated, he fought really hard and kept it alive.
“Joaquin has a good kicking game and he sees what is happening; that comes with players who have that extra time. With the ball in hand he has more time to isolate and see space in behind and exploit it.”
