Head Coach Danny Wilson has revealed how his pack at Cardiff Blues have focussed on sharpening up the set piece - after a live session with Bristol Rugby this week
Cardiff Blues are back in Guinness PRO12 action this Sunday when the team welcomes Ulster Rugby to BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park (kick-off 2.30pm).
Wilson is determined that his team return to winnings ways after a narrow one-point loss to Leinster last week.
And that has included traveling over the bridge to Bristol for a training session with the English Championship high-fliers and his former club.
“We travelled to Bristol and did some live scrummaging and live lineout work,” he admitted.
“That is an area where we need to sharpen up again. It was excellent for a big part of the season, but maybe we have dropped off recently and need to get that back. The session went well.”
Reflecting on the defeat to Leinster, Wilson admitted a review session with the squad had only heightened his belief that it was a game his team should have taken more from.
“It is ultimately disappointing when you look back at it; it’s another missed opportunity and that is now two in two weeks,” he said.
“We felt we should have won at Treviso and could have won against Leinster. It’s given our league position a dent.
“We take the positives and the first half performance is one that we can build on and know we can play that well in poor conditions,” he added.
“We play with a lot of width and tempo to our game and you can’t always do that in certain elements when they are against you. But we showed we could adapt.
“We now have game against Ulster at home where we are confident we can perform and get the right result.”
