Boss looks forward to champion's challenge

5th January 2015

Director of Rugby Mark Hammett insists Cardiff Blues will relish the challenge of facing reigning champions Leinster Rugby at BT Sport Cardiff Arms Park on Saturday (January 10).

Blues will host the current Guinness PRO12 champions in a massive encounter to kick-off 2015 on home soil.

Hammett’s men go into the game buoyed by a derby day success over Newport Gwent Dragons as they look to climb the table and the knowledge that they pushed Leinster all the way when the teams met in Dublin earlier this season.

“All games are important now and we can’t hide from the fact that we are where we are in the table for a reason,” said Hammett. “We are trying to build ourselves up and improve every week.

“Leinster are one of the top sides so it is going to be a challenge and a half. But, like all teams, they have strengths and weaknesses. We will concentrate on our game and see where we can try and upset them.

“When you are a team that is a bit low down in the table and are trying to build and go up then there is no such thing as an easy week,” he added.

“We are always up against it and there can be no resting players because there are no easy games for us at the current time, that is where we are as a team.

“We have some big battles to come and we are looking forward to them.”
