Blues Travel To The Tigers' Lair

17th June 2004

Cardiff Blues will follow in the long tradition of the Cardiff club side when they travel to Leicester on Saturday 28 August to play the Tigers at Welford Road (kick-off 3.00pm).

The club sides of the two cities have been playing each other since 1890, their most recent fixtures being two pre-season friendlies at Cardiff Arms Park in 2000 and 2003. This summer the Blues will return the compliment with the away match in the East Midlands.

Blues’ director of coaching David Young is relishing the fixture. He said,

“Pre-season matches between Leicester and Cardiff have always been very competitive as well as providing excellent entertainment. I welcome this opportunity for the Blues to carry on the tradition. Playing at Welford Road is always a special occasion and this year’s game will be the ideal final preparation ahead of our respective Celtic League and Zurich Premiership fixtures the following week”.

The Blues will also play Worcester at Sixways on Friday 13 August (kick-off 7.30pm) while another pre-season match on the weekend of 20/21 August is currently being arranged.
