Wayne Evans joined the Newport Gwent Dragons ahead of the 2007 - 2008 season, making his debut as a replacement in the pre-season friendly against the Cornish Pirates. Evans was previously a member of the Blues Academy, in 2005, and made two appearances for the Cardiff Blues in the 2005 - 2006 season and furthered this with 12 appearances and one try for the region in 2006 - 2007. Evans was an important player for Pontypridd in the Principality Premiership before his move to the Blues. He played for St Clears and Narberth at junior level before moving to the Carmarthen Quins youth team. He received a call up to the Scarlets Academy in 2001 and at the age of 19 made his senior debut with the aforementioned Quins. Evans has represented Wales at U18 and U21 levels, and was part of the Commonwealth Games Sevens squad that played in Melbourne in March 2006, and clinched the Plate trophy after defeating Sout Africa 28-29 in the final. In March 2007, Evans joined the Wales Sevens squad in Hong Kong for his first involvement on the 2006 - 2007 IRB Sevens World Series circuit. He scored the only points in the Pool defeat to Tonga and scored a brace in the Plate quarter-final victory over Italy; the team went on to secure the Plate trophy in Hong Kong.
