Rumney Junior School are the latest school to benefit from the Capital Rugby scheme as they have been treated to coaching sessions from Cardiff Blues development officer Gary Knowles this week.
Gary has been teaching the basics of the game to the enthusiastic pupils who he says, Are enjoying every minute of the lessons.
Helping out Gary at the school are students from Coleg Glan Hafren, who are studying for NVQs in sports science. The young aspiring coaches have been putting their own skills to practice with Rumney pupils, and all under the careful eye of Gary Knowles.
I believe the coaching system that we have running in our region at the moment is superb and thanks to the backing of Black Horse, and the many other sponsors who have offered support since the region has expanded, we have the opportunity to turn the Blues region into area of vast rugby talent. And the development of that talent starts right here in the primary schools of the region.
Its great to see that weve got young coaches in the region who all have a hunger to learn. Liam Scott is a great example of one of the bright young coaches that we are lucky enough to have. Back in November he was awarded the Tinys Choice award for his outstanding contribution to grass roots rugby in the Blues regions and many of the other students who are coaching have seen what Liam achieved and its spurred them on to work just as hard.
The pupils at Rumney have been given free tickets for the Blues v Edinburgh match by Gary, as a reward for all the effort that they have put into their Capital Rugby coaching sessions and theyll be standing on the terraces on Friday night cheering on their heroes, whilst also hoping to pick up some tips from the pros!
